Learn the basics of pottery wheel throwing in a small, personalized group.
Always wanted to try the pottery wheel? Or have you tried it before and want to learn how to make better pieces?
Our 4-week pottery wheel course is designed for beginners and anyone who wants to develop their confidence with clay. With a maximum of 6 students, you'll receive plenty of individual guidance throughout the course.
Over four sessions, you'll be introduced to the essential techniques of wheel throwing and finishing:
How to centre clay on the wheel
How to open and form a cylinder
How to shape a bowl
Basic wheel-throwing techniques
How to trim your pieces
The basics of glazing and decorating ceramics
The course includes two throwing sessions, one trimming session and one glazing/decoration session.
You'll work with approximately 500g of clay and create several small pieces during the course.
As a beginner, your pieces might include small cups, bowls and other simple forms. They won't necessarily look perfect—and that's part of learning!
By the end of the course, you'll have approximately four finished ceramic pieces to take home and use.
We keep the course small, with a maximum of 6 students, so you can ask questions, get individual help and learn at your own pace.
No previous pottery experience is required.
Whether you've never touched a pottery wheel before or you've already had a go and want to improve, you're welcome at Barro.
Duration: 4 weeks
Format: One class per week
Group size: Maximum 6 students
Level: Beginner / introductory
Location: Barro Cerámica, Gros, San Sebastián
Price: €130
Wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Clay washes out, but you'll have much more fun if you don't have to worry about your clothes!
If you have long hair, please tie it back. Remove rings, watches and bracelets before working at the wheel.
Join us for four weeks of clay, creativity and learning.
